Summer Reading Report

Summer Reading Lists for Grades 5 - 8

Important Summer Reading Dates at a Glance:

  • Summer Reading: Monday, June 29 - Sunday, August 16
  • Registration: Monday, June 1 for POB Residents Only (In-Person Only Registration) - Ongoing
  • Kick Off Summer Reading Carnival: Sunday, June 28 at 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
  • The Library Store Opens: Sunday, July 19
  • All Prizes Must be Picked Up By: Sunday, August 30
  • Every Monday at 9:30am, beginning June 29, a new Teen Summer Reading Quiz will be available. The chosen winner will earn an extra raffle ticket each week.

Summer Reading Program Details:

Choose the program that is best for your child. Registration is in-person only and begins Monday, June 1. Proof of POB School District residency is required to register for this program. This program is for Plainview-Old Bethpage School District Residents Only.

Incentive - Middle School through High School - Grades 5 - 12 (Grade entering in the Fall):

Earn Library currency while having fun reading! Read your chosen book and then critique it. Download the critique form and either bring it into Family Center or email it to us! School suggested reading will earn you an extra "Library Dollar" for the whole book. Towards the end of the program you can go to the "Library Store" to select your prize. The more you read, the more you earn, the bigger the prize you could buy.

In addition to earning "Library Dollars", participants entering grades 5-12 will have the opportunity to earn one hour of community service credit for each book report/ review submitted and approved during the program. A max of five hours of community service can be earned this way. 

Vacation and Sleepaway Campers - All Grades:

Tween/ Teen Vacationers and sleep-away campers can also participate! Bring our Summer Reading packet with you on vacation or to camp and bring back the packet with your reports when you return to redeem for great prizes.

Summer Reading Program Rules:

  1. If we can't read it, you can't redeem for it.
  2. Your report must be YOUR original work.
  3. This year's rewards are for reading done this summer beginning June 1.
  4. You can't receive credit for book(s) you have already reported on in previous years.
  5. All reports are accepted at the librarian's discretion.
  6. To email your reports, send it to summerreports@poblib.org
  7. The last date to submit reports is Sunday, August 16.
  8. The last date to pick up raffle(s) and claim prize(s) is Sunday, August 30 by 6:30 pm.
